Google Print will revolutionize hispanic research
With all of the legal buzz that has been coming out recently about Google Print, I decided to actually check it out and take it for a spin. Needless to say, I was completely awed. Although the service is limited to looking at a few pages or searching for keywords, it is clear that the service will undoubtedly revolutionize humanities research in the Spanish language. You see, Spanish or Latin American publishers have NEVER bothered to put indexes in their works. While an "Indice" appears at the end of the book, it is principally a "Table of Contents". So reading a Spanish-language book has traditionally been a very tedious process, where you had to jot down every page and item you though was important. Now, millions of books which lack indexes, have them de facto; historians will now be able to quickly find items, which will increase speed and efficiency of research, amongst countless other benefits. This is nothing short of revolutionary. We hope Google Print not only makes it out of court successfully, but is quickly expanded to cover the gamut of ALL Spanish-language titles. Go Google, go!
