The Outer World

A local political commentarist interestingly observed that only during elections are politicians confronted with the 'outer reality' of society given that 'votes count'.  (Puerto Rican politicians, who seemed like they would be forever in power, no longer hold their seats.)  However, during most of their tenure, politicians tend to forget this fact.  The 'real world' becomes only the inner world of Congress or the governorship.  At a more general level, we could expand this argument and note that we, generally, tend to become focused on the particularities of our immediate social reality, losing sight of the greater world that surrounds us.  This is particularly true of our daily life in a modern technological world visa vie the natural environment.  What was common centuries past, a walk in the woods, is now a rare event.  We, as the 'politicos', tend to forget about that which placed us where we are now: the environment.  So, we encourage our viewers to get out more into nature...and to join the Sierra Club.
