Le escribo en relación al articulo publicado en la p. 14 en El Nuevo Día de ayer (5 de feb. 2003), sobre el invento de Carlos Avila.
Son muchas las cartas que nos llegan regularmente de personas
que dicen haber inventado una maquina que genera energía sin consumir ninguna, produciendo la maquina de "movimiento perpetuo". Es bien común oír esta reclamación de parte de personas aficionadas, pero ignorantes de los principios mas básicos y fundamentales de la ciencia, en este caso de Termodinámica, entre otros.
Cualquier físico profesional de este país inmediatamente podría haberle dicho que este supuesto invento del Sr. Avila es otra falacia mas de este tipo. En este caso, la indicación mas clara de esto se desprende del propio articulo cuando menciona que tanto la AEE como Recursos Naturales hicieron informes negativos sobre ese invento.
Ha visto usted la patente emitida al respecto por la División de Patentes Federales en Washington a la que hace referencia en su articulo? Ha visto alguna evidencia de los 15 premios otorgados y de los organismos que los han dado? Ha visto algún documento que evidencie el nombramiento que hizo el Presidente Bush de un asesor para analizar esto? Ha visto algún articulo que esta persona haya publicado en alguna revista científica profesional sobre esto? Conoce las credenciales profesionales, como científico, de esta persona?
Este supuesto invento es un disparate, las alegaciones de este
señor son un fraude, y esta persona le esta haciendo un daño tremendo a los estudiantes de la escuela donde enseña. Mas por esto ultimo que por cualquier otro asunto, su articulo debería ser corregido.

Dear Mrs. Francés Rosario,
I write to you regarding the article published on page 14 in El Nuevo Dia yesterday (2/5/03), particularly about Carlos Avila's Invention.
We receive many letters regularly from individuals who claim to have invented a machine that can generate energy without consuming any, or in other words, a "perpetual motion" machine. It is very common to hear this claim from avid amateurs who are unfortunately ignorant of the most basic and fundamental principles of science--in this case thermodynamics.
Any professional physicist of this island could immediately have informed you that the purported Invention of Mr. Avila's is one more hoax of this type. In this particular case, the clearest hint can be found your own article, mentioning that not only the AEE (local energy company) but that Natural Resources Department as well had negative findings in their reports about this Invention.
Have you seen the patent awarded by the Federal Patents Division in Washington DC to which you make reference in your article? Have you seen any evidence about the 15 prizes awarded, and/or of the organisms which awarded these? Have you seen any document that can serve as evidence to the purported fact that President Bush assigned a special investigator to assess this claim? Have you read any articles written by this individual published in any professional scientific journals? Did you obtain any information about the professional and scientific credentials of this individual?
This supposed Invention is a foolish hoax, the claims of this individual a fraud, and this person is doing a great harm to the students of this school where he teaches. It is perhaps for this last reason than for any other, that your article should be corrected.
