Willie Watch: Caguas to become the New Capital of Puerto Rico this century

If you think that environmental issues will not affect you or your loved ones, think again.  The nearly-inevitable increase in the temperature of the Earth's atmosphere, the consequent melting of glaciers, and the rise in sea levels will have a definitive impact on our beloved Borinquen, the isle of enchantment.  Should the sea level increase by 3 feet, the rich "Golden Mile" will become a "Muddy Mile"; at 6 feet the Bacardi fairs will have to be moved to another place besides Cataño.  At 9 feet, the pharmaceutical industries in Barceloneta will only be producing sand pills.  At 12 feet, the continued impact to zones such as Mayaguez will force its residents to move to the central mountain chains.  Utuado will become a new metropolis.  At 15, the semi-arid zones to the southwest of Yauco will become new beach resorts.  At 18, Ponce will be cut to half its size, given that the majority of "ponceños" will have moved to the ample rooms of the Serralles Castle.  Luquillo's kiosks will be by the shore of el Yunque, and there will be a definite decline in crimes within Loiza.  If you doubt these forecasts, consult Jonathan T. Overpeck (Environmental Studies Laboratory, Department of Geosciences, The University of Arizon) and Bette Otto-Bliesner's (National Center for Atmospheric Research, Boulder, Colorado) study.  Press here to see maps pertaining to Puerto Rico.  Incidentally, tsunami warning maps (UPR-Mayaguez)facilitate more detailed predictions.  (Their comparison would be a good exercise.) Given the context created by Katrina, the topic is one that should be given serious consideration.
